the imperial chinese examinations are a godsend for enjoyers of pathetic historical men such as myself. they gave rise to so many types of guy, such as: guy who failed the examinations like forty times and despondently wrote one of the great works of chinese literature between failures; guy who failed like ten times and decided “you know what? this is bullshit. this all has to go” and started a brutal peasant uprising; guy who just barely passed and was suddenly thrown into a very high military position, which he has ABSOLUTELY no training for; and guy who failed several times, faked a degree, got hired by harvard to teach chinese, had his fake degree discovered after he got to boston, begged harvard to let him teach because otherwise it would be really embarrassing for them all, taught like seven students, and died of pneumonia

Women have always worked by the way. Women joining the “work force” and “having careers” and “climbing corporate ladders” only in the last 100 years or so does not erase women’s hard work for thousands of years before. Don’t forget farmer’s wives and dairy maids, housekeepers and schoolma’ams, midwives and healers. Women ran farms while their husbands ran off to Congress or to war. Women who were married did not sit around pregnant all the time. They worked and their work matters just as much as any modern woman’s work matters.

I had to reblog your tags!! Yes yes yes!! I read Proverbs 31 right before making this post, so you got it exactly. Women have always done so much.

Maybe I’m totally off the mark here, but it seems like the popular narrative (at least, what I perceive to be the popular narrative) is saying that those kind of jobs don’t matter because they’re not traditionally the kind of jobs men did (minus the farming and the merchant thing). And that deeply irks me.

Houston put someone on trial for feeding the homeless and jury calls bullshit

The state had to prove to a jury that feeding the homeless is a criminal act and in doing so, probably convinced a few members of the jury to sign up for food not bombs lol.

This is a great time to remind everyone on here about Jury Nullification
